Grundig FR200 Emergency Rechargeable AM/FM/SW Radio

Mondo News merges with Mondo Electronics for this post.

Be ready when Bush suspends freedom of speech, invades Canada and imposes martial law with this spiffy AM/FM/SW radio so you can get non-Bush controlled information from around the world and use the hand crank when, like Iraq, he liberates North America from 24 hour power.

From Taget.com:
The Grundig AM/FM/SW Emergency Radio will give you light and information when you need it most. Features a built-in hand crank to power the generator; emergency light; 4-band tuning (FM/AM and 2 international shortwave bands); 2" built-in speaker; DC and earphone jacks; rechargeable battery; fine-tuning controls; heavy-duty, bronze-color case and a black leather handle for easy carrying. Imported. 6-3/4Hx5-3/4Wx2-3/16D

It even has a power output jack to run additional devices. Comes in a selection of colours as well.

Here's the Froogle link
however you might want to buy this with cash off the grid for when the Bush storm troppers comes to everyone's doors to seize non-approved media sources and devices.

Combo Flash Drive/Flash Light!

From mobilemag.com
A company named ION Technologies has added a twist to their new USB thumb drive by tacking on a LED flash light. The device is available in sizes up to 1GB. The retractable USB port even has a cover that blocks dirt and dust bunnies from getting in when it’s not in use.

You can grab the Flashlight USB drive from ION Technologies’ site at $70 US for the 512MB.

If they would have tossed in MP3 playback I would have been sold..

Top button controls for Ipod

I wasn't planning on covering really mainstream stuff like Ipod add-ons here however this is cool and it's got me wondering if it can be used with any harddrive based MP3 players. Looks to be very reasonable in the price department as well.

4 input selector box with remote

Product Details:

Most models with remote seem to be a fair bit more however, although looking cheap as hell, it does include a remote that can be programmed into a learning remote.

One warnng: you can only use RCA or S-Video with all the connections (like AV1 - AV4) has to be either one or the other for the selector to work.

DVD Recorder / Divx Player

Records in DVD+R and DVD+RW and plays divx files (note - unit doesn't record in divx).

Pretty good price for a DVD Recorder (as low as $120 USD new) and divx is a bonus.

Circuit City/The Source by Circuit City (Canada) will be coming out with their own DVD Recorder/Divx soon but the arrival date is still TBA.

Reviews here seem ok

No region hack found so it's stuck at Region 1.

DIY Handheld Portable Data Projector

Now if this isn't "Mondo Max Headroom" I don't know what is.

"A variety of application domains (ranging from ubicomp, through augmented reality, all the way to roaming performance art) would benefit from a lightweight, portable, battery powered projection device that could be used to display computer graphics. Due to the lack of suitable commercial projectors of this type, .:thePooch:. (part of the computing department at Lancaster University, UK) set about creating just such a device. "

WaveX SR-M620

Looks sweet. The only small mp3 player on the market that has a built in speaker. The only downside is that the largest it comes in is 256 mb. If they had a 512/1 gig model I'd be all over this.

It also has a USB jack under the top of the unit for direct plug and play.

Description from: bhphotovideo.com

• FM Tuner/Recorder

Whether you want to listen to a sports game, the television at
the gym, or simply your favorite radio station, the WaveX
SR-M620 makes it easy to tune in with its built-in FM radio
receiver with 20 presets. You can even record your favorite
songs to build your playlist.

• Built-in Speaker

A unique and convenient feature, the WaveX SR-M620 comes
with a mono speaker for playing back your reminders or sharing
a new tune with a friend.

• Voice Recorder

Recording notes, lectures, reminders is as easy pressing the
record button and talking into the built-in microphone.

• Memo Function

You can upload to the WaveX SR-M620 important data like
phone numbers, email addresses, etc. to replace that clumsy
organizer.

• Audio-In Recording

You can record from any audio device with the audio line-in
recording function. You can even record from the telephone.

• Lyrics Display

Great for singing along, the WaveX SR-M620 can display the
lyrics of the song your listening to.

• Multi-Color LCD Backlight

Able to display almost any color of the rainbow, you'll never
get tired of staring at your LCD.

DVD Players that support ID3 tags

Bumping this to the top since alot of people I tell this too don't know about it and like the idea...

DVD Players and Home Theatres from Venturer (Circuit City and The Source by Circuit City have many made under the Centrois brand that also comes from the same source company) are among many others that support ID3 tags - for those who don't know ID3 tags will allow items like song name, artist, ablum et al to be displayed on the TV while the track is playing.

Here's a listing from videohelp.com that indexes user opinion and reviews of electronics

Venturer has a 5 disc model that seems perfectly suited to this feature that I'll be picking up and checking out soon to confirm this featue (as it is not on the videohelp site but all Venturer units I've tried has this feature)

Walkie Talkie Wrist Watches

A number of companies are making Walkie Talkie wrist watches. From looking around these seem to be the best "non-toy" kind:

Hello: Hello Kitty

Digital Cameras have been around for awhile. You're not on this site for that. MPEG4 video recorders are newer but not 20 minutes into the future ;)

However...the NHJ company Che-ez (yeah....dumb name) has come up with some nice pop culture branded cameras for the Hello Kitty crowd. Specs look pretty good too so I don't think these will be geared to the kiddie crowd. Check out the full specs on the sites below.

MPEG4 Video Recorder

Digital Camera

Note: These products are coming soon. Don't look for them in Froogle now - I'll post back here when they hit the market.

Hopefully this'll catch on and I'll finally be able to get a Ghostbusters camcorder :D...well Simpsons at the very least ;)

NHJ Wristwatch Television

Seriously...this is cool.

Recieves channels 2-69 (total number depending on those broadcasting in your area).

The good: Great product. Well built. Does what it says.

The bad: Tad big for a watch. Custom headphones (which act as antenna). Reception could be a tad better but still perfectly acceptable. Note: Only usable with NTSC signals. No PAL version.

I vote this the ultimate TV Geek toy :D I've never seen anything this cool.

NHJ Vamp Portable Combination TV/Digital Video Camera - MPM 101

From Target.com:

• Built-in TV tuner with 10-stage rod antenna and real-time or programmed recording
• Records any video outsource in MPEG 4 (video) and MP3 (audio) for direct playback
• SD card slot for up to 256MB expanded memory

The upside is it looks like a great idea and since it records divx it's very unique. Downside is that the resolution for the camera is low (320x640). Note: TV tuner only usable with NTSC signals. No PAL version.

iRiver iMP-1100 divx/mp3 discman

From divx.com
The iRiver iMP-1100 handheld DivX video player breaks the mold of portable video player designs with its medallion physique and the ability to play up to 16 hours of DivX handheld video. With its built-in LCD, you can enjoy DivX movies and music anytime, anywhere. Using the Composite TV-out, you can even enjoy pictures and movies from the iMP-1100 right on your TV set.

Key Features
  • DivX Certified under the Handheld profile
  • Video Formats - DivX, ASF, JPEG, BMP
  • Audio Formats - MP3, WMA, CD-DA
  • 2" TFT LCD - 260,000 colors
  • Image viewer
  • 16 hours of DivX playback with external battery pack
  • 6 hours of DivX playback and 25 hours of music playback with internal Lithium-ion battery
  • iRiver Shock Free Anti-Shock System (850 seconds for MP3)
  • Firmware upgradeable
The only downside it seems is that it *does not* play dvds so I assume, in addition to reguar DVDs, that it will not play divx burned onto a dvdr disc.

Excellent gadget for the geek. Some reviews online complain about reception issues for the weather band. For me it can recieve the Canadian weather service for example but not the US dispite other weatherband radio I've used which can pick up both fine.

I've mainly used it for the 2-13 TV band. Great reception. Recieved every channel I expected it to have.
